Winterizing fountains and cast stone are imperative to protecting your investment and enjoying your purchase for years to come.
Cast Stone and Fountains
Winter ice build-up can cause damage to concrete statuaries. Concrete will expand and contract with temperature changes. Follow these tips to reduce winter weathering to your fountain when the weather nears 50 degrees, which will be during the months of October & November:
At the end of the season, thoroughly clean and completely drain and dry the concrete surfaces.
Store indoors in a building which is not exposed to freezing temperatures. If that is not possible to bring indoors or is too large, cover the entire product with a waterproof cover. Ensure the cover is straight and tight, giving no chance for water or snow to pool on top the cover, and that the base is on a properly drained area, so water or snow does not pool around it. You may need to take the fountain's top down and place it in the lower bowl, so it does not get knocked down before, during or after the placement of the fountain cover.
*Cover with a waterproof cover
*Do not allow snow or ice to build up on or against the concrete.
*Remove snow before it turns to ice. Do not use antifreeze, salt or chemical ice removers as these may damage concrete
